Still working on the "How Much" and "Where" (I'd love to be abroad), but after teaching high school English for four years, I stumbled upon my dream job of Academic Advisor at Universities. Still getting to work in education with students. I don't mind the 9-5 now that I don't have to take work home with me, and I'm not emotionally, physically, and mentally drained at the end of every day. And at my current university, I still get christimas break and spring break. My supervisor is also the greatest! I love how you broke these important attributes down so well!

I appreciate you sharing specific numbers-- reminds me of Nic Antoinette from Wild Letters (I know y'all are friends) sharing her "enough" number. Something I am thinking about recently.

I'm so glad you appreciated it! I was a little on the fence but I LOVE when people share specific numbers - it's so illuminating! Talking about money is a gift to everyone around us!

As a single mom, my major concern for the foreseeable future is a working situation that gives me enough to cover monthly expenses plus a little bit of savings and is flexible and nearby. I'm very fortunate that we have very strong employee protection laws over here, so I'm not too stressed about things changing within the organization, as they are want to do every few years. It definitely DOES mean that I am having to compromise on the who and the what in terms of projects I work on, but being able to pick my kiddo up from childcare and spend our afternoons together is well worth that trade-off for me!

Reading through the breakdown of your thought process was really helpful. And timely. I’m in the midst of this process myself— I’ve been considering what I need in my career to be happy; who I want to spend my days with, where I want to work from and so on. All I know at this stage is my schedule and location need to be flexible

"People who own their role in outcomes and don’t complain about results they don’t get from advice they didn’t take. (!!!!)"

THIS! All day, every day. Says me as I AGAIN email the client about the Mother's Day special promotion they have yet to approve!

Yes! And the thing is: I don’t particularly CARE if they’re slow to respond to emails or get me edits or don’t want to do webinars, etc. We’re all busy and we’ve all got strengths and weaknesses. It’s the part where they’re upset that their launch didn’t go how they’d hoped or their ads didn’t convert … when they didn’t take my advice or the got me edits at the 11th hour.
